The first illustrated monthly magazine for children in Japan, Kinderbook is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year. Following in the footsteps of Kodomo No Tomo and Kodomo No Kuni (debuting respectively in 1914 and 1922), our first issue in 1927 included an abundance of scientific articles. Inspiring curiosity in children, Kinderbook set standards in the field of child education which are still observed today.

Sozo Kurahashi, known as the father of child education in Japan, took part in the editing of the first issue of Kinderbook, and subsequent issues featured illustrations, stories, and nursery rhymes by other foremost contemporary names such as Hakushu Kitahara and Yaso Saijo. To this day, Kinderbook continues its tradition of employing the talents of prominent writers and illustrators, with each article and story lovingly produced by its creator. The exhibit focuses on the design of Kinderbook covers over the past 80 years.
