Apocalipsis cum figuris
1511
No. 20679
Albrecht Dürer produced this book so that each scene of the Apocalypse features text on the left page and a woodblock print on the right page. All fifteen illustrations are large enough to cover the entire page, and the shading and texture are expressed by the density of the lines. This book is the second Latin edition. The first edition was produced between the years 1496 and 1498, and published by Dürer himself in the year 1498. At that time, it was unusual that a craftsman's workshop which undertook illustration became the main publisher. For a young craftsman who just became independent after his apprenticeship and training, this work was a chance to gain fame around the world.
