The Most Beautiful German Books Exhibition
Oct. 3, 2003 (Fri) - Jan. 25, 2004 (Sun)
10:00 - 18:00
Each year, the book art foundation Stiftung Buchkunst selects "the most beautiful German books" from among newly published hardbacks. The selection process employs strict criteria applied to a diverse range of elements, including how well the bookmaking concept represents the book contents, the typography, the graphics, typesetting, printing, paper, and binding. In this exhibition, the Printing Museum presents a selection of beautiful books crafted by the most effective methods. Visitors are welcome to handle the books and judge for themselves the design and technologies used to make them. In 2002, the 50th anniversary of the competition, 832 books were judged by the Stiftung Buchkunst. This exhibition presents 43 award-winning books and 15 recommended volumes.
Among the award-winning books, there are four special bound volumes. For their preservation, the handling of these books will be limited to the following days:
Oct 25 (Sat), Nov 9 (Sun), Nov 29 (Sat), Dec 17 (Wed), Jan 17 (Sat)
On each of these days, these volumes will be available to the public between 14:00 and 18:00 (museum closing time).
