All Those Products Everyone Knows: A Cornucopia of Familiar Designs

Products that continue to be loved and used over the years are etched into our memories along with time. Because package designs are closely involved with economics, technology, and our lifestyles, they are said to be the designs that we are most apt to come into contact with in our daily lives, and in every age they reflect our abundant human ingenuity and sensitivity.

Present-day versions of some 300 major products that have continued to be sold for 30 or more years are displayed in this exhibition in the order in which they first went on sale. By observing this broad range of products and the social context that led to their development, one realizes the powerful appeal that certain products have and how important a role that package design has on that appeal.

The Crucial Aspects of Package Design sub-exhibition running at the same time features comments by some of the designers who actually worked on these package designs.

The main exhibition is being held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Japan Package Design Association.
