temporary exhibition
World Book Design 2021-22
Dec. 10, 2022 (Sat) - Apr. 9, 2023 (Sun)
10:00 - 18:00
Award-winning books from Best Book Design from All Over the World 2022 and competitions in Japan, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, France, Canada, and China are on display.
This exhibition will feature approximately 160 books, including prize-winning books from Best Book Design from All Over the World 2022 held in Leipzig, Germany in February 2022, the 55th Japan Book Design Awards, and other competitions held in Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, France, Canada, and China. Visitors can enjoy the world's best book designs and bookbinding techniques. Judges for the Best Book Design from All Over the World were not able to discuss the entries face to face last year, but this year's competition was held for the most part in the same way as in previous years. Unfortunately, the adverse effects of the pandemic lingered on in many places, with logistical difficulties keeping some countries from sending their books in time. The award-winning books from various countries reaffirmed the significance of exploring books as objects under such circumstances, and showed that people involved in the book industry are growing ever more committed to pursuing quality and creativity when it comes to paper books, especially now that e-books have taken root.
*Not all award-winning books are exhibited because some books are difficult to obtain due to small print runs or other reasons.
*As a means of preventing COVID-19 infections, visitors are asked to wear disposable gloves, distributed at the entrance of the P&P Gallery, when touching the books.
*The exhibition may be canceled or postponed to prevent infections, or measures may be taken to restrict admission while the exhibition remains open.
