Popular Art and Consumer Culture

10:00 - 18:00
Hikifuda was a small printed handbill used to advertise shops and products.
Hikifuda was first printed during the middle of the Edo Period and later became ubiquitous with the advent of mass printing during the Meiji and Taisho Eras. The Japanese public still treasure the original hikifuda for their sundry patterns, capricious designs, and high printing quality.
This exhibition features about 200 hikifuda from the museum's collection.
