Astronomy and Printing
In Search of New World Vision
Oct. 20, 2018 (Sat) - Jan. 20, 2019 (Sun)
10:00 - 18:00 (final admission: 17:30)
After the invention of Gutenberg's typograpchic printing, some astronomical scholars, such as Regiomontanus, Petrus Apianus, Johannes Schöner, and Tycho Brahe, were also in charge of printing. They turned their attention to typograpchic printing as a new medium. In this exhibition, we show the relationship between the printer and the scholar. They were intrinsically linked.
The role of typograpchic printing was not limited to the medium for spreading information. Scholars, authors, proofreaders, and printers met at a common location, the printing house. The printing house functioned as a forum for facilitating points of contact between them.
